Carmel Research School is based in Carmel College and covers Darlington and the Tees Valley and beyond.
The research schools are a joint collaboration between EEF and IEE, and Carmel joins 29 schools in the Research School Network. The Research School Network is ‘school-led support for evidence-based practice’.
There are many evidence-based resources and tools available to help improve teaching practice and raise the attainment of pupils, but it can be difficult to get research into schools in ways that really make a difference in the classroom.
Research Schools aim to lead the way in the use of evidence-based practice. Through the network they will share what they know about putting research into practice, and support schools in their region to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning so that they really make a difference in the classroom.
Support and Training
We offer a wide variety of support and training programmes, based around the evidence guidance reports, for senior leaders and teachers on how to improve classroom practice based on the best available evidence. We have built local capacity in trained Evidence leaders in Education (ELE’s) who will lead the programmes and are able to offer bespoke in school training, help identify a diagnosis and provide coaching in their specialist area.
Carmel Research School can offer programmes in the following areas:
- Making the difference for disadvantaged students
- Improving EYFS literacy
- Improving Primary literacy
- Improving Secondary literacy
- Improving maths at KS2 and KS3 learning behaviours
Each programme works with evidence-based practice using the implementation guidance from the EEF.
