Many schools across our area value the important role that ITT plays in recruiting and developing people to provide the best learning opportunities for the children in our area.
Why offer a placement?
There are many benefits to hosting trainee teachers, including:
- Trainee teachers are an additional resource for the school.
- Trainee teachers bring innovative, research-based ideas into the classroom.
- Mentoring provides an excellent development opportunity for experienced teachers.
- Supporting recruitment and retention strategy by retaining trainees as ECTs.
- Create and embed a culture of learning and professional development for all staff from trainees through to senior leaders.
- Financial support is provided for placement schools.
Commitment
Hosting a trainee for one of their teacher training placements can be a rewarding experience for the school and the members of staff involved in their support. Trainees are enthusiastic and bring a range of new ideas and ask questions which can help you reflect on your practice.
To recognise the important role that staff play in training ITT students, evidence based professional development is provided by training providers and includes the best possible research-informed practice, as well as coaching and mentoring skills.
Many trainees go on to successfully gain employment in their placement schools.

Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP)
Within the ITT curriculum from 2024, all providers are expected to provide an increased focus on Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP). The focus trainees on a specific area of practice allowing them to study the research and evidence, observe professionals using the techniques, and then immediately rehearse and practice before putting it into action.
ITaPs provides an excellent opportunity for schools to showcase excellent practice. If you are interested in hosting ITaP experiences in your school, please get in contact with us.
If you are a school setting looking to get more involved in ITT please contact us at the hub and we can signpost you to different options available.
